Red Alert 3 Soviet Build Orders Part 1
First off I would like to welcome you to the main part of our Red Alert 3 websites.
Secondly I would like to welcome you to the first real meaty post on this website.
(I know it was a rubbish intro, but they well get better.. else we are in trouble!)
The Soviet team in Red Alert 3 use brute force to defeat there enemys. Generally the Red’s have access to the most powerful armored units on the battle field. I myself play mainly with the Soviets on 1v1, they are the most agressive team early on and to reap that advantage early on really works with my play style. To get this right means you need to have nailed your build order, which brings me nicely round to some of my reccomended build orders.
The all rounder build order
This build order is a staple, great if you are new to the game or dont know a map particularly well.
Basically it will allow you the most flexability.
- Barracks
- 3 Bears
- 1 Engineer (if you can capture oil derreck or outpost
- Power Plant
- Refinary
- War Factory
- 2 Terror Drones
- 2/3 Sickles (if you see he is producing infrantry)
- 2/3 Hammer Tanks (if you see he has Sickles/Armor/Building away from main base)
- Advanced power
- Refinary
- Airfield
- Crusher Crane
- Refinary
- MCV -> Expansion
Early units are used to scout out the enemy base and stoping his engineers. You want to try and stunt his economy by getting your terror drones into his ore trucks, or use them for taking out empires buildings before they are deployed. If you rears or terror drones servive the early game, park them infront of his barracks to stop him producing infrantry and step up hammer tank production. You could even try to get your engineer into his MCV. Then its all over for him!
Things become a little tricky if you cant make the most of the early game.
If you find yourself facing a turtling opponent who has managed to counter your early game, you need to make sure you get your 3rd ore node, then if you can, with plenty of scouting take the other ore nodes. If you have the economic advantage, you are all most certain to win.
you should then make up a well mixed land army, comprising of a few of:
- Bullfrogs
- Sickles
- Terror Drones
- Apocalypse tanks
- Hammer Tanks
- V4 Launchers
Mixing them up well is the key, and will mean you can play on all the different units strengths and stop the enemy making an easy counter. If you have the economic advantage, as hopefully you will, thing about setting up a naval force. Scout with some subs and take out anything he has with either the subs or air, then send in your main ships and some bullfrog transports for AA cover, then you have the perfect and very devistating distration attack force from the sea.
Hopefully you opponent will send there money countering the sea attack and not be paying attention to the land attack force rolling in over the horizon!
Strategy Tip: Keep Scouting, knowing what the enemy is building and attacking with is key to your build order and unit prodution. DONT neglect it after your first few bears pass away into the after life!
Happy RA3 ing!
More comming soon!

only a slight problem with the order… you cant build hammer tanks until you build the advanced power. Not a big deal although it does take quite a while to build it
And you spelling is bloody awful man !
what bout twinblades, i just love the sovjet twinblades, put them in a group of 7-8 and they can do massive dmg, put a mig or two in them, and you got a raiding force …?
Haha totally agree with Jimos… Cant build until Nuclear Powerplant, so stops u quite a long time.. I also saw quite a few other build scenarios you proposed that are not possible…
And double check your posts, it’s a sometimes a pain to read what you write
For soviets, I suggest that you build turrets all around your base, and instead of using those flak cannons (they are slow at aiming giving the enemy time to destory a defence or two), build about 4/5 bullfrogs and group them from where you think the enemy will strike from. Also, put defences around your ENTIRE base, the enemy might take around the back and if you focus on one spot to defend, you will be doomed.
Hammer tanks can have multiple weapons by destroying vehicles (exept terror drones) with their leech beam. If you dont want, or can’t use your units for sacrifice, you can use the terror drones special ability (it stops 1 vehicle from moving) to stop an enemy vehicle and since it is stopped, use the hammer tanks leach beam and it will get another weapon! (have some backup nearbyjust incase the enemy sends backup).
